When Advocacy Complements Care & Legal Support
Brenda is 77, independent and mobile, with family and friends around her. Until a year ago, she had her son, an adult living in London, who supported her emotionally, even if he was not there day-to-day to help with life admin. They were incredibly close.
When Brenda lost her husband in 2021, it marked the beginning of a long road of legal paperwork, property matters, and complex decisions. We started supporting her during that period, helping her manage the things that often fall outside of care and legal service, however, are no less overwhelming.
Then, last year, Brenda’s son passed away. The loss was devastating, and her practical and emotional load intensified. Managing paperwork, navigating property matters both in the UK and overseas, understanding legal correspondence, and dealing with everyday admin, all while grieving.
That’s where Kirsti Cox Advocacy made all the difference.
What Support Looked Like
Legal Complement
Witnessing documents.
Supported in explaining legal paperwork in plain language.
Calling and attending solicitor meetings with Brenda.
Supporting her through the process of updating her will.
Helping her decide when and how to respond to formal texts or emails.
Practical Support
Helping with her driving licence renewal.
Managing the aftermath of a minor car accident.
Organising transport for appointments and her car servicing.
Providing admin and email support.
Guiding her through Docusign and printing important documents.
Tech & Telecoms Advocacy
Helping her access her banking apps.
Supporting her when her mobile phone broke.
Spending over five hours liaising with her mobile provider when she was wrongly charged.
Returning hardware, booking engineers, managing systems and emails.
Chaperone Support
Providing a calm, trusted presence for property related meetings.
Providing in-person support for UK based appointments and offering to travel overseas where necessary, an offer taken seriously, even though it was not needed in the end.
Brenda said:"I had no idea how to deal with situations… my head was confused. I felt panicky, scared of saying or doing the wrong thing. Kirsti goes through everything, explains it to me in a way I can understand. I don’t retain things well, she leaves me notes, helps me order it all. She repeats things, and she’s patient. I trust her 100%. There’s no one else I’d turn to."
